Leaders are experiencing unprecedented challenges. Our “new normal” requires a different way of leading and working. Many of your team members are working remotely, creating new challenges in productivity and engagement. Communication is crucial to the success of your organization and it looks entirely different.
Employees are anxious and becoming burned out contemplating their future. One of the biggest contributing factors to engagement and job satisfaction is feeling valued and appreciated. Leaders and managers are searching for ways to create that environment while maintaining productivity.
Collaboration and solid communication are the key. And most of us do not have those innate skills. I know I didn’t. While managing teams and projects I have struggled mightily with team member engagement, productivity, and achieving key results. Because I didn’t know how to communicate to collaborate effectively with diverse personalities, I resorted to micromanaging, providing instructions when I was sure I had a good solution or process. For years, I didn’t embrace an open collaborative environment which empowered others to share and implement their ideas and preferences to achieve strong results.
It didn’t work. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to get others to be more productive and motivated. Racked my brain for ways to get things done “the right way.” Became increasingly frustrated while disempowering team members from doing work they already knew how to do. If only I would let them.
Then I learned a different way of communicating, leading, and collaborating. I started listening. Encouraged my team to be involved and collaborative. Became more transparent and supportive rather than micromanaging all of the details.
The result was astonishing. Work was more fun. The team was immensely more productive and efficient. The organization got the benefit of lots of ideas from a group of talented people rather than from just me. No great surprise, things got done efficiently, quickly, and with better results. The employees were engaged and productive. I slept better at night. And we all enjoyed our job and each other in a way unimagined before the cultural shift.
I am on a mission to help my clients create a breakthrough to inspired leadership. Throughout my career I have had good and not so good managers, been a senior executive, held various offices on several boards, developed governance and management systems, and consulted with numerous boards and management teams. That experience helps me to understand the unique challenges you are facing and help you find solutions.
Through our work, I collaborate with leaders who default to logic and task completion to awaken their appreciation for their employees’ value, develop their own vulnerability, and celebrate the potential of the people on their teams.
The resulting culture shift is massive. The development of additional leadership skills allows each employee to be empowered to do their best. There is clarity about expectations and outcomes. Employee engagement and productivity are increased. The bottom line of the organization is positively impacted.
I experienced the difference between doing it ineffectively and the benefits of my own breakthrough to effective leadership. And that is what I want for my clients and their teams. This “new normal” isn’t going away. It will continue to challenge all of us to work, collaborate, and communicate in different ways. The old ways of doing things don’t work anymore. Let me help you have your own breakthrough to effective leadership.
